Participants at Africa Charter workshop in Brussels, November 2024

The Africa Charter for Transformative Research Collaborations gained significant momentum in Europe during a workshop in Brussels on November 6th and 7th, 2024. The event brought together approximately 120 higher education leaders, policymakers and funders to discuss how to advance equitable and transformative research partnerships.

Convened jointly by the University of Bristol Perivoli Africa Research Centre (PARC) and the Coimbra Group Global Partnerships Working Group, with support from the University of Bergen, the workshop resulted in several new organisations endorsing the Charter. This marks a crucial step forward in embedding the Charter’s principles into future collaborations between African and European institutions.

The Africa Charter is a powerful initiative whose time has come.
