Members of the Africa Charter Core Facilitating Team met in Rabat, Morocco, to attend the Association of African Universities (AAU) 16th Quadrennial General Conference, themed “Shaping the Future of Higher Education for Innovation and Sustainable Development of Africa”, held July 21–25, 2025, at the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic.
The team convened a plenary session on the Africa Charter and worked to plan further activities.
The plenary session, titled “Africa Charter for Transformative Research Collaborations – the journey so far”, was held on Monday, 21 July, as part of the “Building Strong Research Ecosystems in African HEIs” segment.
The panel featured Prof. Puleng Lenkabula, Vice-Chancellor of the University of South Africa (UNISA); Prof. Kenneth Matengu, AAU Board Member and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Namibia (UNAM); and Prof. Shose Kessi, Dean of Humanities at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa. The session was chaired by Dr Brando Okolo, Head of Science, Technology and Innovation at the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD).
