In my field of development studies, equitable partnership often involves changes in decision-making processes such as the increasing involvement of researchers from the global majority in the formal arrangement of the research collaborations. There is very limited room for substantive questions about epistemic positionalities, the extractive nature of research collaborations and most importantly on language issues. For me the transformative element should go beyond the visible manifestations of power imbalances.
